Character Building in UPH Plays An Important Role in Building Career

Timothy Inkiriwang, UPH’s Law alumni cohort 2002, is present as guest speaker for UPH Festival 2019. In front of all the freshmen, Timothy shared his career story as Senior Associate at Dentons HPRP, Timothy also emphasizes the importance of value establishment he’s gained at UPH and how it has impacted his life and career. Timothy, who was also a student athlete for UPH Eagles during his university days admitted that the establishment for his personal values is in fact important and rarely found elsewhere. He felt that UPH has helped shape his character and mental through the process he undergone throughout college, including the help from his lecturers, staff, and other personnel serving at UPH.

One of the most prominent figures in this process is Coach Stephen Metcalfe, whom still serves at UPH as the Director of UPH Sports and Wellness Center and coach to UPH Eagles. “In everything you do, money or other benefits should not be your focus. But rather, we work because it is our duty to finish what is assigned to us. We have to do everything and produce everything of best quality,” Timothy says as he reminisced on his Coach’s word, to do everything in excellence.

Timothy holds the principle this very day. He believes that even clients and his colleagues can see the difference between those who does things wholeheartedly or not. His supervisor at UPH Law also taught Timothy on how to set priorities, an important value he also practiced. As a student athlete, Timothy almost suspend his graduation a year late so that he would be able to represent UPH at National Student Basketball League (LIBAMAS). Thankfully, Timothy chose to graduate on time as his supervisor encouraged him.

Through this experience, Timothy was able to encourage each freshman to be able to enjoy their university life hand in hand with prioritizing their assignments as students. For Timothy, the presence of alumni after their years of graduating and sharing their stories of how UPH changed their lives is proof of how UPH contributed to Indonesia’s young generation.
